Committees meet to discuss diversity
Community members involved in the Building Bridges program will be meeting for the second time in four months to share updates and discuss plans for the weeklong celebration of cultural diversity scheduled from Oct. 19 through 26.
Since the kickoff meeting in February, committee members have gained increasing support from local organizations, according to the chairman of the executive committee, Fred Armstrong. The list of participating community organizations has grown to include the Boy and Girl Scouts of America, Friends of the Saratoga Libraries and most of the churches in Saratoga. There is currently double the number of groups participating in the program than when it first started.
The meeting will be held on June 10 at 6:30 p.m. inside West Valley College's Baltic Room and is expected to last until approximately 9:30 p.m. Members will be able to get a sneak peak at the performances that will take place during the week.
KSAR Channel 15 gets equipment
KSAR Channel 15 will be replacing its substandard video and audio equipment using funds remaining from a legal battle with AT&T. In 1999, the company bumped KSAR from Channel 6 to its current station, and in March 2002 AT&T was forced to pay a settlement fee of $95,000. After paying off legal expenses, KSAR had $71,841 in its fund. The cost of the improvements are estimated at $45,013. This amount will also cover all tax and installation fees.
The money is currently in the city's general fund, but the remaining balance will be transferred to the separate operating and equipment trust fund by the end of June.
Library architect speaks at meeting
The Friends of the Saratoga Libraries is inviting the public to attend its annual meeting on June 9 at 10 a.m. in the community room of the newly renovated Saratoga Library. Guest speaker Mark Schatz, who is the architect of the new library, will be giving his personal impressions and historical perspectives of the library's expansion. The election of new officers and directors will also be held. For more information, contact Tat Blesch at 408.867.9571.
