Library's first public
opening date moves
The opening of the new Saratoga Library has been postponed to a later date due to unexpected construction delays. The doors were expected to open to the public on June 9, but workers discovered that a number of items have yet to be completed.
Much of what still must be completed includes hooking up the computers and obtaining a certificate of occupancy, which will be granted after the fire officials inspect and approve the fire alarm system. Other details include setting up phone lines, putting up wallpaper in the children's room and doing minor paint and wood touch-ups.
In the meantime, those who have checked out library materials may either keep them until the opening or return them to the library's bookdrop located at the front of the building. The new opening date has not yet been determined, but library officials expect to know within the week. The grand opening celebration will remain scheduled for June 21.
Pat Smith to host chamber event
The next after-hours business mixer will take place at Pat Smith's Extravaganza on June 18 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Mixer admission is $5 for Chamber members and $10 for nonmembers. New Chamber members will have a chance to introduce themselves to fellow merchants in the area and participate in a raffle.
According to the Chamber's executive account director, Carmel Scott, 17 new businesses were added to the Chamber this month.
Pat Smith's Extravaganza is located at 14435 Big Basin Way. For more information about the mixer or to become a Chamber member, call 408.867.0753.
Construction of temporary fire
The old Contempo building on the corner of SaratogaLos Gatos Road and Saratoga Avenue was demolished on June 5. The demolition allows for construction of the temporary fire station behind the existing station, which will be torn down and rebuilt to accommodate more adequate facilities. The Memorial Arch on the side of the building is expected to be moved back to its original location on Blaney Plaza on June 23.
