Teens spend summer studying Shakespeare

Practicing Shakespearean dialogue may not be most teens' idea of a fun way to spend the summer, but for six local youths, the summer conservatory of the Festival Theatre Ensemble is a dream come true, giving them the opportunity to practice everything from Morris scarf dancing to swashbuckling.  More

Teachers' jobs saved July 4th Tree fine
After months of agonizing decision-making, frustration and even tears, the Saratoga Union School District will not eliminate teaching positions after all, thanks to intense fundraising efforts by the Saratoga Education Foundation.  More When local resident and former councilman Jack Mallory learned that Saratoga didn't have any Fourth of July events planned, he took matters into his own hands. A bell-ringing and parade will be held at Azule Park.  More The Saratoga Oaks Homeowners Association is looking at a stiff fine after violating twice the city's tree removal ordinance.  More

City budget cuts Village lights Sound of music
As the city faces a budget with about $1 million less in the coffers than last year, city employees are undergoing some major transitions to accommodate the cuts.  More In an effort to increase foot traffic and to attract potential customers, council members have decided to extend tree-lighting services from three to seven days of the week, to be in effect throughout the year.  More Members of the Saratoga High School wind and string ensembles have gone to Europe to showcase their talents in the Vienna International Music Competition.  More
