City seeks new
commissioners
The city of Saratoga has openings on the arts, finance and public safety commissions.
The arts commission meets every second Monday at 1 p.m. The purpose of the commission is to investigate, review and analyze issues on art policies.
Meetings for the finance commission are held on the same day as the arts commission but at 7 p.m. Finance commissioners review the city's monetary allocations and prepare budgetary analysis.
Public safety commissioners meet on the second Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. in the administrative conference room at city hall. The commission deals with crime, fire prevention, traffic safety and other related areas.
Applications are available at the city clerk's office and must be returned by July 10. For more information, contact City Clerk Cathleen Boyer at 408.868.1269.
Colleges will close
down on Fridays
West Valley College in Saratoga and Mission College in Santa Clara will be closed every Friday through Aug. 8 to adjust to the state's budget cuts. Employees will either be working four 10-hour days to compensate for the loss of working hours or will be taking an unpaid leave during these months. A limited number of crew members will be handling emergencies on an as-needed basis. The director of facilities estimates that the district will save approximately $5,700 in gas, electricity and water.
Memorial Arch will
move on July 13
The Memorial Arch is scheduled to relocate from its place on Los GatosSaratoga Road to Blaney Plaza across the street to allow for the expansion and remodeling of a new fire station. Workers will be moving the 84-year-old structure on July 13 at 5:30 a.m.
Celebration plans
for Azule Park
The city is planning a grand opening celebration for the new Azule Park on Goleta Avenue next to Blue Hills Elementary School. The proposed date of the event is July 12 at 11 a.m., but details are still being worked out. The park's first public opening was in December 2002.
