Important to select best home inspectors
By Jean Newton
With more people than ever retaining home inspectors prior to the sale of a home, the American Society of Home Inspectors advises current and future homeowners to understand exactly what a home inspection involves, as well as how to locate a qualified home inspector so as to fully benefit from the service.

"With the increasing demand for home inspections today, it is important for homeowners to locate the best home inspector to examine their home," said John Ghent, president of the American Society of Home Inspectors, the largest nonprofit professional organization for home inspectors. "Homeowners should be aware of the basics of a home inspection and what to look for in a quality inspector."

According to Ghent, a typical home inspection includes the inspection of the exterior, interior, roof, crawl space and attic. For the exterior the inspection includes an evaluation of drainage conditions, exterior surfaces, decks and chimneys. The condition of roofing materials and flashing is also inspected, as is the crawl space and attic for insulation, ventilation, electrical heating and plumbing systems, if accessible. In the interior, the inspector will take a look at windows, doors and plumbing fixtures.
