Student earns science degree
Tom Mace, a Los Gatos resident, has received a bachelor's degree in computer science, with a minor in classical civilization, from Colby College. Mace graduated on May 25 from the Maine school with multiple dean's list honors. At Colby, he played squash and was a cyclist; he graduated from Saratoga High School in 1999 and is an Eagle Scout.
Mace's parents are Los Gatos' Betsy Burgess and Jennifer Wolcott of San Jose.
Freshman awarded prize for essay
Amit Arunkumar, 13, who will be a freshman this fall at Saratoga High School, was recently awarded first prize in the eighth-grade level by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, San Francisco section. Arunkumar's essay addressed the topic "What will be the new developments of flight in the next 100 years?"
For his achievement, Arunkumar was presented with a $500 U.S. savings bond at the annual essay contest banquet July 24 in Sunnyvale. Arunkumar is the son of Geetanjali Arunkumar.
Saratoga graduate receives degree
Ana Schulze of Saratoga joined the largest graduating class in Whitworth College's history in celebrating the school's 113th commencement exercises May 18 in Spokane, Wash. Schulze was awarded a bachelor's degree in international business.
Whitworth College is a private, liberal arts college.
Bellarmine fashion show has audition
Young women who are high school seniors are invited to audition for modeling roles in the annual Bellarmine Mothers Guild fashion show, "Invitation to Intrigue." In addition, high school girls of any grade level are welcome to audition for professionally choreographed dancing roles in the show.
Auditions for models are set for Sept. 7 from 12:30 to 4 p.m.; auditions for dancing roles take place Sept. 10 from 6 to 9:30 p.m.
The fashion show takes place Nov. 7 at the Fairmont Hotel.
