Volunteers needed for Celebrate

The Saratoga Chamber of Commerce is recruiting volunteers for the 15th annual Celebrate Saratoga! Street Dance scheduled on Sept. 13 from 5:30 to 10:30 p.m. on Big Basin Way.

Volunteers will assist in a variety of duties, including setup in the morning, booth monitoring during the event and cleanup at night.

The event will feature live music from local bands, award-winning wines, food from local restaurants and a Fun Zone for children.

To sign up or for more information, call the chamber at 867.0753 or contact Chris Redford at 408.872.0207 or email him at justakidagain@hotmail.com.

City recognizes Francos, deputies

Saratoga residents George and Mary Franco were commended with a plaque by the city during a city council meeting on Aug. 6 for being good Samaritans at the residential fire on Saratoga Vista Avenue.

The couple noticed the fire while driving in the area and alerted nearby residents by honking their car horn, flashing their lights and yelling "fire."

They stayed at the scene until deputies James Jensen and Todd Wyman arrived. The deputies also received an award for their quick actions in attempting to rescue the residents from the burning house.

Commission invites artists to take part

The Saratoga Arts Commission and the Saratoga Recreation Department are looking for artists who would be interested in displaying or selling art pieces at their second annual Art in the Park Celebration scheduled for Sept. 27 at Wildwood Park.

Those interested in setting up an exhibit must be 18 or older and must belong to an art gallery or organization.

Work in any form is accepted. Artists can bring as many pieces as space permits. Space is limited and will be allocated in order of response.

Applications must be submitted by Sept. 12 to staff liaison Kim Saxton-Heinrichs.

For more information, call 408.868.1248.
