Eugene V. Schmidt
Eugene V. Schmidt died on July 26 in Los Gatos. He was 55 years old.
Born in St. Louis, Mo., on Dec. 1, 1947, Schmidt was a well-known physician in the South Bay. A resident of Saratoga, he was a member of the Associated Anesthesiologists Medical Group for 20 years and was on staff at San Jose Medical Center, Regional Medical Center, Good Samaritan Medical Center, and O'Connor Hospital. Schmidt was also a tennis, astronomy and scuba-diving enthusiast.
He is survived by his wife Ronda Schmidt of Saratoga, son Adam Schmidt of San Francisco, parents Eugene V. and Marie Schmidt of Florida, brothers Robert and William Schmidt and sister Carol Lipe of St. Louis, Mo.
Private and public services have been held.

John Sutherland Langwill
John Sutherland Langwill died on Aug. 2. He was 89.
Born on June 6, 1914, in Rockford, Ill., Langwill earned a degree in engineering and mining from the University of Illinois and served in the U.S. Navy, teaching wartime courses in 1942. He then became a Deacon at the Immanuel Presbyterian Church in Milwaukee, Wis.
Moving to Saratoga in 1944, Langwill took a job as executive engineer at the Westinghouse Electric Plant in Sunnyvale and became heavily involved with the city of Saratoga.
Langwill served on the first Saratoga City Council from 1956 to 1962. At one time he was president of the Saratoga Men's Club and the Montalvo Service Group, and was also the director for the Saratoga Community Chest and Junior Achievement of San Jose. In addition, he was a scoutmaster and member of Holiday Circle.
He is preceded in death by his wife Aileen Langwill, and survived by his second wife Ruth Langwill, stepchildren Bob Peck, Patty Lunn, Marcus Peck, Becky Doty, Dave Peck, and 14 grandchildren.
Services have been held. Memorial donations in his memory may be made to any charity.
