The National Junior Basketball Saratoga program will hold walk-in registration for all players on Aug. 24, 1­3 p.m., and Aug. 28, 7­8:30 p.m., in the Saratoga High School gym.

The competitive basketball league is open to boys and girls in the first through eighth grades. Separate divisions are set up for players in the third through eighth grades with coed leagues for first and second graders.

The cost is $190 for the first player from a family and $150 for each additional family member. Players must provide a copy of their PG&E bill to show proof of residency in Saratoga.

Parents of players are expected to volunteer for a job in the program or pay a $300 buyout fee. Confidential scholarships are also available.

Quito fall ball

The Quito Little League will hold final registration for the 2003 fall ball season on Aug. 23, 9­11:30 a.m., at the league's major division field at Rolling Hills Middle School. The season runs from Sept. 14 through Nov. 16 with games on Sunday afternoon in the major and minor divisions. The cost is $50 per player, and youngsters must provide a copy of their birth certificate at the registration. For more information, call 408.374.3154.


Play For a Cure

The Play for a Cure Foundation will host its third annual round robin tennis tournament to benefit breast cancer research and the Women's Healthy Eating and Living study conducted at Stanford Medical Clinic. The 2002 Charity Event of the Year, as voted on by The United States Professional Tennis Association, will return to the Los Gatos Swim and Racquet Club on Sept. 5 from
5-9 p.m.

Activities include tennis with the pros, an exhibition match, a silent auction and food and wine donated by Los Gatos, Saratoga, Campbell and Willow Glen restaurants.

Players of all levels are welcome and are asked to raise $150 in order to play. Sponsors who wish to join in the fun but not play can do so by donating $25. For more information visit http://www.playforacure.org.
