New construction
starts on PAL
Construction is underway on Saratoga High School's Performing Arts and Lecture Center (PAL). The administration parking lot has been torn up, and there is fencing around the site. The project was delayed at first, according to Principal Kevin Skelly, because the original bidder decided he wanted an additional payment for the contract. This request was rejected, and the second lowest bidder was given the contract. This company, Gonsalves and Stronk Construction Co., is also building the new pool at Los Gatos High School. The contract for the PAL Center calls for the building's completion in July 2004.
Student attends
leadership event
Julia Hobbs of Saratoga, who attends Hillbrook School, attended the Junior National Young Leaders Conference from Aug. 9 to 14 in Washington, D.C. The program is a unique leadership development program for middle-school students. The conference introduced young people to the rich tradition of leadership throughout American history, while helping them build their own leadership skills.
Hobbs participated in educational activities and presentations led by individuals in positions of leadership. She also visited historic landmarks, including Colonial Williamsburg, from which our country took shape.
