Art in the Park features the work of 35 artists—plus music and food
By Mandy Major
To show appreciation for the artists of Saratoga, the Saratoga Arts Commission has teamed up with the Saratoga Recreation Department to host the second annual Art in the Park event.

Featuring 35 artists, plus music, food, and face painting, the day promises to be the perfect way to wind down Celebrate Saratoga! activities.

The free event kicks off at 11 a.m. and lasts until 4 p.m. on Sept. 27 at Wildwood Park, with art representing the Aegis Gallery, Gallery Saratoga, Saratoga Contemporary Artists, and independent residents looking to begin a career in the creative arts.

Saratoga Recreation Department supervisor Kim Saxton-Heinrichs says the commission and department were eager to host a second event after the success of the initial mini-fest. "The first year we had a great time. The artists were responsive and happy about it," she says. "The arts commission really wants to do something for the artists, to serve them and give them an opportunity to do something at no cost."

While guests peruse the wide range of art—including photographs, woodcarvings, jewelry and oil paintings—six bands will be providing entertainment. From noon to 1 p.m., the Saratoga Community Band Woodwind Quintet and Brass Ensemble will perform, followed by a Russian folk group, the Saratoga Taiko Drummers, a fiddle and guitar group, and the Skillet Lickers.

In addition to more music, a new children's area has been added this year, led by the Saratoga spirit squad. The team will be lending a hand to provide face painting, hair wraps, and children's games in order to raise funds for its program fees.
