It was quite a year for the Brookside Waves in the 2003 swimming season. But no one in the club had quite the year that Sara Markwith had.
The young swimmer ran up the most team points throughout the year to earn the distinction as the Brookside Swimmer of the Year.
She capped her super season by winning the girls 910 age group runner-up high point award at the league championships. She also set a team record with her 29.77 effort in the 1112 age group 50-yard butterfly.
In all, Brookside swimmers set four new club records this season. Along with Markwith, Lindsay Oosterhouse set a new standard in the girls 1112 50 backstroke in 31.89, Vali Barsan set a new record in the boys 1314 50 breaststroke in 30.93 and Justin Lerman set a new mark in the boys 1518 50 breast in 28.82.
Anthony Brewer and Clay Kellinger joined Markwith as stars at the league championship meet. Brewer was the high point winner in the boys 910 age division and Kellinger was the high point runner-up in the boys 6 and under division.
