Saratoga holds final day of NJB registration for '03-04 season
The National Junior Basketball Saratoga program will be holding its final walk-in registration for all players on Sept. 21, 12 p.m., in the Saratoga High School gym.
The competitive basketball league is open to boys and girls in the first through eighth grades. Separate divisions are set up for players in the third through eighth grades with coed leagues for first and second graders.
The cost is $190 for the first player from a family and $150 for each additional family member. Players must provide a copy of their PG&E bill to show proof of residency in Saratoga.
Parents of players are expected to volunteer for a job in the program or pay a $300 buyout fee. Confidential scholarships are also available.

Anderson at UOP
Hayley Anderson of Saratoga is a 5-foot-11 junior setter on the women's volleyball team at the University of the Pacific this fall. Anderson, a graduate of St. Francis High School, is a 2003 co-captain for the Tigers after averaging 11.28 assists, 2.10 digs and 0.64 blocks per game as a sophomore when she was named to two different all-tournament teams.
Anderson was named to the all-state team in high school after leading the Lancers to back-to-back appearances in the state Division II finals. St. Francis won the state crown her junior year.
Bonanno retires
A coaching career than spans nearly 40 years will come to an end this year as San Jose City College athletic director Bert Bonanno announces his retirement. The longtime cross country and track and field coach for the Jaguars will be honored at a retirement dinner on Oct. 10 at Lou's Village in San Jose.

Punt, Pass, Kick
The annual Pepsi Punt, Pass & Kick competition for youngsters ages 815 (as of Dec. 31, 2003) will be held Oct. 12, beginning at 2 p.m. at San Jose PAL Stadium.
Participants will each have one punt, one pass and one kick, and scores will be determined by distance and accuracy. The winner in each age group advances to the regional championships on Oct. 18 at Jefferson High School in Daly City. The championship round will be held Nov. 2 during halftime of the San Francisco 49ersSt. Louis Rams game.
