The bride is the daughter of Charles and Mary Hamilton of Great Barrington, Mass. A graduate of Monument Mountain Regional High School and the University of New Hampshire, she is an executive assistant for Borland Software in Cupertino.

The groom is the son of Chris and Fred Irany of Saratoga. He is a graduate of Saratoga High School and De Anza College, and works as a mechanic for Peninsula Automotive in Campbell.

The couple met through mutual friends while skiing at Lake Tahoe in 1998. Married by Reverend Paul Sibcy, the newlyweds honeymooned at Tarewa and Maka Islands in Fiji. The couple lives in San Jose.

Karen Biederman and Jim Brookshier were wed on Aug. 23 in San Luis Obispo. The ceremony took place at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, followed by a reception at Edna Valley Vineyard.

The bride is the daughter of Tennys and Wayne Biederman of Saratoga. A graduate of Monta Vista High School and Cal Poly­San Luis Obispo, she is a technical writer for an information technology company in San Jose.

The groom is the son of Duane and the late Carol Brookshier, and the stepson of Lynn Marie Brookshier of Hemet, Calif. He is a graduate of Hemet High School and Cal Poly­San Luis Obispo, and works as a new business development manager for a marketing firm in San Jose.

The couple met through a mutual friend while attending college, and was engaged 5 1/2 years later when the groom-to-be proposed at Coit Tower in San Francisco. The couple honeymooned in Hawaii and now lives in the Marina district of San Francisco.
