Superintendent, principal say no football field lights planned
By Lisa Toth
Contrary to rumors, there are no architectural blueprints floating around for a football field with lights at Saratoga High School. And that "No!" comes with an exclamation point, said Cindy Ranii, superintendent of Los Gatos-Saratoga Joint Union High School District, who wants to squash those rumors.

"I'm not aware of any plans for a stadium at Saratoga High School," Ranii said.

She did say that the high school's principal, Dr. Kevin Skelly, is exploring the use of putting in artificial turf and improving the bleachers, but definitely not installing a stadium or lights.

"There is no plans for lights," Skelly said, adding that it should be referred to as a field rather than a stadium. "I don't know of any high school that uses the word stadium."

Skelly confirmed that the school is exploring the viability of putting in a new kind of artificial turf, since the sprinkler pipes that run underneath the field are about 40 years old. They are also looking at new bleachers that would be up to code and would also give fans a better view of the field.

"A stadium is not in my vision at Saratoga High School," Ranii said. "There is no planning going on now regarding that."
