The Friends of the Saratoga Library is holding its first book sale since the June grand re-opening of the Saratoga Library. The sale will be held in the community room on Oct. 4 and 5. Paperbacks are four for $1 on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and $2 per bag on Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. Proceeds will benefit the library's collection and programs. Yoga retreat
for all levels
Reservations are now being taken for the second annual Autumn Weekend Yoga retreat on Oct. 2426 at Saratoga Springs. Guests can expect nearly three full days of yoga classes, meditation sessions and evening activities. Lodging is available in dorms ($345), private lodge rooms ($365), or by bringing a personal tent ($285). Fees include all classes and six vegetarian or vegan meals. New artist's work
at Aegis Gallery
The Aegis Gallery in downtown Saratoga is featuring new artist Eduardo Lazo. Creating shapely ceramics in striking combinations of color, Lazo holds a master of fine arts degree and Ph.D. in art, and his work will be on display in the gallery through fall. Cheer walkers
at West Valley
The American Lung Association is hosting a "Blow the Whistle on Asthma" walkathon on Oct. 4. Although it is too late to register, head down to cheer on participants or make a donation. The 2.3-mile walk will begin at 10 a.m. at West Valley College. Funds raised from the walk will be used for asthma screening and education, clean-air campaigns, and other lung disease prevention programs. Watson earns eagle scout award
Saratoga resident Daniel Watson was awarded his Eagle Scout rank on June 29 at the Los Altos Youth Center.
A member of Boy Scout Troop 75, he earned his rank by planning and constructing an extensive cinder-block planter at the entrance of Arbuckle Elementary School in east San Jose to support the school's beautification program. He also achieved Oljato Brave, Warrior, Medicine Man, and Order of the Arrow designations.
Daniel is the son of Marilyn Watson of Los Altos and Donald Watson of Saratoga. He is a recent graduate of Bellarmine College Preparatory and is now a student at UC-San Diego, where he studies computer science and engineering.
