Retirement celebration

The Los Gatos­Saratoga Recreation Department invites the community to attend a retirement celebration in honor of Joanne Maloney. The event will take place from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Saratoga Elementary School multipurpose room, 14592 Oak St. in Saratoga. There will be light appetizers, cake, ice cream and music as well as the sharing of fun stories of good times with Maloney over the years.

This event is for anyone who knows, worked or played with Maloney. Maloney served as a physical education instructor at Saratoga High School from 1962 to 1979 and directed the Saratoga School Clubhouse from 1985 to 2003. Pumpkin Walk at Marshall Lane

Marshall Lane Elementary School will hold a Pumpkin Walk from 4 to 8 p.m. Oct. 25. This Halloween family event will include a costume parade, games and prizes, a haunted house, bake sale, pumpkin walk, food and more. The event is sponsored by the Marshall Lane Parent­Teacher Association. The event will be held at Marshall Lane Elementary School, 14114 Marilyn Lane in Saratoga. Admission is free. Credit union will give scholarships

Meriwest Credit Union, one of the Silicon Valley's largest financial institutions, is looking for high school students to award up to $1,000 in its annual scholarship donations. The competition is open to students between the ages of 13 and 18, with a grade point average of 2.0 or higher who live or work in Santa Clara, San Mateo, Alameda, Contra Costa, or San Francisco counties or Tucson, Ariz.
