The bride-to-be is the daughter of mother and stepfather Beverlea and Steve Kerner of San Jose and father and stepmother Terry and Ann Yamada of Dallas, Texas. A graduate of Saratoga High School and San Francisco State University, she is studying to be a registered nurse.

Her fiancé is the son of Kay and Richard Schenk of La Habra, Calif. He is a graduate of Sonora High School, California State University Monterey, and works in residential lending for Downey Savings Bank.

The couple first met by accidentally bumping into one another while walking through downtown San Jose. The two struck up a conversation and went on their first date the following week. Five years later, the groom-to-be proposed at Domaine Chandon in Napa Valley.

The couple plans to honeymoon in Belize or the Grand Cayman Islands and will reside in Los Gatos.
