Traffic tickets could pay for speed bumps

Speed bumps on Pierce Road (Saratoga News, Oct. 1)? Yes! Cost? About $3,000 per bump. How many? Whatever it takes. How paid for? About one week's revenue from fines levied on just the Pierce Road speeders.

The catch? Apparently traffic control officers are concerned (and rightly so) to write out tickets on this dangerous stretch of road. "An officer could get killed because of the crazy way people drive on this street." (Quote from accident investigator.)

So a compromise. Establish a safe-as-possible way to ticket speeders for a week or so, then build the speed bumps. People knew this was a 25-mph zone when they bought their homes, so we have every right to expect them to control their behavior (and that of their teenagers) in front of our house as they expect people to do in front of theirs.
