County set to hold waste-disposal day

Residents looking for a place to properly dispose of household waste products can do so at the Household Hazardous Waste Event on Oct. 25.

The event, which will be administered through the Santa Clara County, will be located at the first lot on the West Valley College campus on Fruitvale Avenue between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Items that will be accepted include automobile products, fertilizers, pesticides, oven cleaners and detergents.

Residents with disposable products must make an appointment before dropping off items.

For more information about what is accepted or to make an appointment, call 408.299.7300.

Study of traffic calming measures

With direction from public safety commissioners, city engineers will be conducting a traffic study along Pierce Road from Cerre to Saratoga-Sunnyvale Road in response to growing concerns about pedestrian safety from several residents.

The study will focus on the volume of cars and the speed at which they are traveling on an hourly basis over a seven-day period.

If available, data will also be gathered during concert days.

In addition, engineers will be gathering data of all accidents occurring along the entire section of Pierce Road from 1999 to the present.
