EOPS Month in September

The state legislature recently approved a resolution naming the month of September "Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS) Month." EOPS helps low-income and educationally disadvantaged community college students at West Valley College in Saratoga achieve their educational goals.

"We are grateful for all the support that has come our way during very difficult times," said Nancy Romer, EOPS director at West Valley College. "Our continued resolve to serve under-represented students is deepened and filled with renewed vigor."

Currently, there are 340 students utilizing EOPS at West Valley. The program is state-funded and has been on all community college campuses since 1967.

In addition, California Community College League (CCLC) also named West Valley College graduate Emmy Moore Minister a distinguished alum. This competitive award is given to only four community college alumni annually and will be officially presented to Minister on Nov. 22.
