County library has the title once again

The Santa Clara County Library is in the spotlight once again. For the second consecutive year, it has been recognized as the best public library in the nation, scoring an 884 out of a possible 950 in the Hennen's American Public Library Ratings.

The library was with 95 others in the 250,000 to 499,999-population category that was evaluated based on measures including cost per circulation, visits per capita and funding per capita.

AAUW will host special visitor

Interested in finding resources for those who have been involved in the criminal justice system? The Los Gatos­Saratoga Branch of the American Association of University Women has invited Jennifer Tait of the Friends Outside in Santa Clara County organization to its next meeting on Nov. 12.

Tait will discuss several outreach programs and services available to prisoners incarcerated in the Santa Clara County jails, individuals who have recently been released and families with relatives currently in custody.

The meeting will take place from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Saratoga Library Community Room. For more information, call 408.271.6900.

Center offers flu shots for residents

The Saratoga Senior Center will be offering flu shots for community members on Nov. 8 from 10 a.m. to noon. The cost is $5 per person and admission will be on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information, call the center at 408.868.1257.

Plant, seed tour visits Saratoga

The Friends of Guadalupe River Park and Gardens will be hosting a two-part tour Nov. 14. The day begins with lunch at Mama Mia's in Gilroy, followed by a tour of the Goldsmith Seeds plant, which is not usually open to the public. The group will then move on to the Saratoga Horticultural Foundation to learn how seeds and new plants are developed. Plants will also be available for purchase. The trip is $45.
