The Saratoga football team could win the championship in the El Camino Division of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League with a win over Santa Clara in the final game of the regular season. But even if they do, the Falcons won't be the first league champion at Saratoga this fall.
The girls volleyball and field hockey teams have already wrapped up titles this season. The volleyball team clinched the El Camino crown with wins over Homestead and Wilcox last week, and the field hockey team clinched the title in the Santa Teresa Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League with wins over Monta Vista and Cupertino.
Bryte Nielson bombed 24 kills to drive the Falcons past the Mustangs 25-16, 25-10, 28-26 in girls volleyball play last week.
Saratoga improved to 11-0 in the division and to 28-1 for the year two days later with a 25-12, 25-12, 19-25, 25-6 win over Wilcox. Nielson and Nina Sevastopoulos shared the lead in kills with 13 apiece.
It took a tight 2-1 win over second-place Monta Vista and a close 1-0 win over Cupertino for the Saratoga field hockey to secure the division championship.
Kellie York scored a goal and assisted Tiffany Kim on another to lead the Falcons to the 2-1 win over the Matadors. Kim scored unassisted to spark the Falcons to the 1-0 win over Cupertino.
Saratoga improved to 12-0-1 in the division and to 13-2-1 for the year with the two victories.
The Falcons, who were to close out the regular season at home against Leland on Tuesday, will now prepare for the upcoming Central Coast Section playoffs.
The Saratoga girls tennis team, meanwhile, improved 9-3 in the SCVAL's De Anza Division with a 7-0 whitewash win over Lynbrook last week. Serena Lin won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles to start the Falcons on the road to the victory.
Saratoga is now 17-5 for the season.
