West Valley will host conference

West Valley College hosts "Shaping New Possibilities for Leadership" on Dec. 11 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the campus center, 14000 Fruitvale Ave., Saratoga. The event is sponsored by the diversity and inclusion committee, the science/math division and the student activities office.

Refreshments will be provided by Mission College Hospitality Program, with entertainment by West Valley College Jazz Choir.

Teddy bear drive is kicking off

The West Valley­Mission District Police will be collecting new and gently used teddy bears and other stuffed animals from Nov. 24 to Dec. 19. These loveable critters will be given to the county children's shelter and the pediatric ward at Valley Medical Center so children who can't go home for the holidays can have something to hug.

Stuffed animals can be dropped off at the district police office at either the West Valley or Mission college campus. For more information, call 408.741.2092.

Community is invited to concert

West Valley College, 14000 Fruitvale Ave. in Saratoga, invites the community to a free piano concert and reception on Dec. 12 at 7:30 p.m. in the college's theater. Faculty and students from the college's music department will perform on Steinway pianos in the newly renovated theater. To attend, call the advancement foundation at 408.741.2164.

WVC artwork featured in exhibit

In celebration of art creation, the Triton Museum of Art is showcasing an exhibition through Feb. 15 in honor of artists who teach, while focusing on their works created in the studio. Included in the exhibition is a painting by Heidi Brueckner of West Valley College in Saratoga and a ceramics piece by Dave Ogle, also at WVC.

The museum is located at 1505 Warburton Ave., in Santa Clara across from Santa Clara City Hall. The museum is open daily from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Thursdays until 9 p.m. Admission and parking is free. For more information, call 408.247.3754.
