'Babes in Toyland' comes to Saratoga

To celebrate its 100th year in production, the Lyric Theatre is presenting Victor Herbert's opera comedy Babes in Toyland. Featuring Mother Goose characters, the play is aimed for children ages 5­12. The performance will open with a holiday hour, filled with caroling, games, tree decorating, and a visit from Santa Claus. Performances will be held Dec. 13 at 1, 4, and 7 p.m. and Dec. 14 at 1 and 4 p.m. at the Saratoga Civic Theater, 13777 Fruitvale Ave. Tickets are $25 per person and available at www.lyrictheatre.org or by calling 408.986.1455.

Goods needed for Southern California

In the name of the holiday season, Saratoga High School is collecting goods for those who lost their belongings in the Southern California fires. Canned food, warm coats, and teddy bears are all encouraged as gifts. Donations can be dropped off in the administration office of the high school, located at 20300 Herriman Ave., Saratoga. Starbucks offering more than coffee

Support the Holiday Angels Toy Drive is coming to local Starbucks coffee shops through Dec. 25. Patrons are encouraged to drop off new, unwrapped gifts at any Starbucks retail location. Gifts will be distributed to local community hospitals. Suggested donations include toys for individual children, as well as videos and video game cartridges for use in hospitals. Have a grand ball to kick off holidays

The Valle Monte League of Silicon Valley is hosting its "Christmas Through the Window" Grand Ball. As the culmination of its annual Christmas Tree Elegance program, a series of holiday-themed events, proceeds will be used to raise money for local mental health agencies. Thousands of guests are expected for the event, which will be held the night of Dec. 5 and features a gourmet dinner, silent and live auctions, and dancing until midnight.
