Group to discuss
logging impact

Residents interested in learning about the effects of commercial logging on the environment are invited to attend a public meeting with members of the Guadalupe Group of Sierra Club. Members will also be discussing probable effects of two new state laws signed by former Gov. Davis, one of which requires any timber harvesting plans to go through the State Water Resource Board.

The meeting will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the Saratoga Library Community Room on Jan. 22. Refreshments will be served. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own mugs for drinks.

Leads Club has 25th anniversary

Saratoga business professionals are invited to attend an event hosted by the Leads Club on Jan. 29 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Mountain Winery. The affair marks the club's 25th anniversary and is designed to allow business professionals from Sonoma to Monterey counties a chance to network with one another.

The night's activities will feature a silent auction of club member products to benefit Junior Achievement of Silicon Valley and Monterey Bay.

Admission is $60 in advance and $75 at the door. For more information or to register for the event, visit www.northerncaleadsclub.com.

Hillside parcels topic of meeting

The Saratoga Planning Commission will be discussing the possibility of expanding the urban service area boundary line to include two new parcels near Hakone Gardens. The expansion will allow the city to oversee major housing developments on these properties, which span approximately eight acres. If approved by the commission, the issue will go to the Saratoga City Council, which may put in a request to the Local Agency Formation Commission.

The meeting will be held on Jan. 28 at 7 p.m. in the Civic Theater on Fruitvale Avenue.
