Students help prepare 'Cupboard"

Eighth-grade advisory classes from Saint Andrew's School in Saratoga traveled to InnVision's Georgia Travis Center of San Jose in December. The students sorted through hundreds of books, toys and gift donations to help prepare the center's "Santa's Cupboard," a program which provides the center's clients an opportunity to shop for age-appropriate, new holiday gifts for their children.

At the center, donations that filled two giant sheds were organized onto tarps on the ground. The students sorted new and used books and toys, put the donations into age-appropriate piles, bagged and labeled them, and put them back in an organized fashion into the sheds in preparation for the successful holiday toy distribution.

Family math night
will be fun for all

Math Matinee, an outside company, and the Argonaut Elementary School Parent-Teacher Association will be presenting a Family Math Night on Feb. 5 from 6:308:30 p.m. in the school cafeteria. The festive evening of math games is intended to inspire even the most math-reluctant person. The night will be hands-on, with activities for all ages, abilities and interests. The concept for the event originated at UC-Berkeley's Lawrence Hall of Science as "Math Around the World." The event is $5 per child. Younger siblings are welcome, and parent admission is free. For more information or to register for the event, call the school office at 408.867.4773.
