Bowe does it again

For the second straight year, Kevin Bowe of Saratoga has earned All-American status as a triathlete. Bowe, a graduate of Mitty High School and UC Santa Barbara, finished fifth in California and 46th in the United States last season.

Bowe was first in his age group (20­24) at the UVAS Triathlon (fifth overall), the Sandman (seventh overall), the Monterey Bay Challenge (12th overall) and the Sentinel in Santa Cruz (20th overall). He was 10th in the college division of the Wildflower Triathlon (24th overall) last May in a field of 702 competitors.

Fever tryouts

The De Anza Fever, a girls under 15­16 Class 1 soccer team, will hold tryouts on Feb. 21 and during regular team practices for players born after July 31, 1988. Check the website at www.deanzafever.org for practice times and locations.

The Fever placed third in fall league play and second in the Fremont Celtic Harvest Classic Tournament. The team is coached by Jorge Espinoza, who holds a USSF "A" license. For more information, contact Ronda Hoxsie at 408.252.5019 or rhoxsie@yahoo.com.

Flash tryouts

The West Valley Flash, a girls under 11 (born after July 31, 1992) Class 1 soccer team, is looking for players, including a goalkeeper, for the spring season. The Flash posted a 10-0 record a year ago and made it to the round of 16 at the Class 1 State Cup competition. For more information, call Vicki at 408.810.0400.

5-on-5 soccer

Sign-ups for boys and girls in the under 8 through under 17 divisions are now being accepted for a winter 5-on-5 soccer league in the Campbell/West San Jose area. For more information, call Monica at 408.203.5262 or email jesasoccer2004@yahoo.com.

Umps needed

The Los Gatos­Saratoga Girls Softball Association is looking for an umpire-in-chief to oversee umpiring needs for the spring season that will begin in March.
