Villa Montalvo's first annual Food and Wine Classic is set for April 25. Guests will have an opportunity to watch 12 top California chefs create dishes, to enjoy fine wine from 20 vintners and to stroll the grounds at the 175-acre site. Special guests include nationally known chef David Kinch and the wine director of the Mina Group, Rajat Parr. A silent auction will also take place later in the evening.

The event, benefiting Montalvo's Education and Outreach Program, will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and is limited to 400 people. The cost is $150 per person. A portion of the cost is tax deductible. To reserve a spot, contact Romala Breckenridge at 408.961.5855.

Company seeking dancers for concert

Ariel Dance Productions will be holding auditions on Feb. 21 for local residents 18 and up interested in performing in a summer pop/rock concert. A specific date for the concert has not yet been determined.

Candidates will be expected to reproduce moves taught by a choreographer. Genres that will be covered include ballet, jazz, hip-hop, Latin and modern dance. Auditions will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the Campbell-based studio at 2385 S. Winchester Blvd. Participants should arrive early to register. Author to highlight local camping spot

Matt Heid, author of 101 Hikes in Northern California, will give a slide presentation Thursday, Feb. 19, about some of the overnight outdoor adventures featured in his new guidebook, Camping and Backpacking the San Francisco Bay Area. Heid will speak about spring wilderness destinations that are within an easy drive of the Bay Area, as well as suggestions for further excursions to Big Sur, Ventana Wilderness and the Lost Coast.
