Phone-A-Thon
raises $260,000

The results of Saratoga Education Foundation's Phone-A-Thon on Feb. 8 included pledges totaling $260,000 from families in the Saratoga Union School District and community members. SEF is a nonprofit organization composed of Saratoga residents and parents concerned about state-funding cutbacks in the district's public schools.

Approximately 25 percent of those called on Feb. 8 were still undecided about how much money they planned to pledge. Foundation members said that by the time they receive all Phone-A-Thon collection receipts, they are hoping receipts will total more than $300,000. There were more than 100 volunteers who participated in the event.

of land corporation

Kevin Moore, a member of the West ValleyMission Community College District board of trustees, was elected president of the district's land corporation and will serve through December 2004.

The corporation subleases land owned by the district that is not required for educational purposes. Various developers have built projects on this excess land. And revenues from the leases are used to enhance the quality of education at West Valley and Mission colleges. The corporation is a nonprofit auxiliary entity of the district, and members of the district's board of trustees also serve as directors of the corporation.
