Cheadle competes in Sacramento

Christopher Cheadle, a sixth-grader at Blue Hills Elementary School in Saratoga, qualified to compete in the state finals of the National Geographic geography bee, sponsored by the National Geographic Society and ING. Cheadle qualified for the event after taking a written test at his school, and he is one of the top 100 qualifiers in the state heading to the finals April 2 in Sacramento.

One winner from each state will then advance to the national competition held in March at the National Geographic Society headquarters in Washington, D.C. The final round of the bee features Jeopardy host Alex Trebek and airs on national television in May.

SUSD will hold
budget workshop

Saratoga Union School District board members will be hosting a special budget workshop March 16 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the library at Redwood Middle School, 13925 Fruitvale Ave., Saratoga. The meeting is open to the public, and parents and community members are encouraged to attend. For more information, call 408.867.3424.

Sports auction for
Saratoga High

Saratoga High School is hosting its annual Sports Boosters Auction and Dinner on May 16 from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Mountain Winery. Proceeds from the event will help keep the school sports programs alive by paying for coaches, trainers, equipment, uniforms, clinics and more.

Participants will have the opportunity to bid on jewelry, collectibles, trips, theme dinners, sports memorabilia and specialty wines, to name a few items. The cost is $220 per couple, with dinner and drinks included. Contact Sue Bac at 408.867.3392 or email sbac@kpcb.com.

Realtors honor local teachers

Prudential California Realty is seeking nominations for grant consideration for its education foundation. The foundation honors outstanding teachers in grades K­12 each spring, including special-education teachers. The nominations are due by March 15.
