District supervisor
pays visit to city

Santa Clara County District 5 Supervisor Liz Kniss met with Saratoga City Council members, planners and others for a brief meeting about county-related items March 4. The group of about 20 met at the Historical Museum to discuss the Historic Park Master Plan, a proposed quarry trail leading to the ocean, hillside preservation standards and fire service policy review.

The meeting was mostly informational, but concerns were brought to Kniss about differences in county and city guidelines for hillside development. The supervisor suggested meeting again with other West Valley city managers, city and county planners about the issue.

City will begin property review

The Saratoga City Council voted unanimously to begin annexation proceedings for property at 22461 Mount Eden Road owned by the Shankar family. The council, however, followed a staff recommendation not to include the road itself in the annexation as originally proposed. City planner Ann Welsh said long-term maintenance of the road would be "costly due to the road's instability." The process is estimated to take approximately 14 weeks.

Drekmeier a guest at Saratoga Library

The Sierra Club's Guadalupe Group is sponsoring a slide show and lecture by Bay Area Action founder Peter Drekmeier. Drekmeier recently combined BAA with the Peninsula Conservation Center to form Acterra, a "broad-based environmental group."

The presentation will be held at 7:30 p.m. on March 18 in the Community Room of the Saratoga Library.
