Jennie Thomas Colson, a resident of Saratoga for more than 50 years, died on Feb. 18. She was 96.

A native of Canada, Colson moved to California in 1916. She received a teaching certificate in 1929 and a bachelor's degree in 1958, both from San José State University. She taught elementary school in the Cambrian and Gilroy unified school districts for 30 years.

Predeceased by her husband, Paul Robert, Colson is survived by her daughters Elizabeth Piasko and Janet and Margaret Colson, and son Robert Colson.

Private services were held at Madronia Cemetery. Contributions may be made to any charity of choice or to the Veterans of Foreign Wars in care of the Veterans Administrative Hospital, attention to voluntary services, at 3801 Miranda Ave., Palo Alto, CA 94304.
