Artist's work is
nature-inspired
New Yorkbased artist Ming Fay will give residents a taste of his eclectic style at a reception on March 21 in the art gallery of Villa Montalvo, 15400 Montalvo Road. His exhibit, featuring indoor and outdoor installations of mixed-media sculptures revolving around eastern and western philosophies, consists of a garden filled with colorful vegetation, money-tree vines laden with golden leaves, cherries, coconuts and ginseng roots suspended on the ceiling and an array of inventive forms of fruits.
Fay will hold a discussion about his work and the meaning behind his pieces at 3 p.m. Doors open at 2 p.m. Fay's work will be on display through June 20.
Argonaut presents
musical production
It started out as a bestseller and turned into top movie at the box office. But students at Argonaut Elementary School are taking J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit a step further with their first-ever musical performance on March 19 and 20.
Curtains will rise at 7 p.m. in the school's multipurpose room. To reserve a spot, drop off a check for $5 payable to Argonaut PTA to the school at 13200 Shadow Mountain Road. Tickets will also be sold at the door for $7. For more information about the performance, contact Liz Guy at 408.867.7588.
AAUW recognizes
women's history
The Los Gatos, Saratoga and San Jose branches of the American Association of University Women will celebrate women's history month on March 27 with "Portraits of the Past," a presentation honoring significant figures throughout the Santa Clara Valley who have made a difference in their communities.
The presentation, performed by volunteers of the History San Jose Museum, takes place from 1 to 3 p.m. at the San José City College Theater, 2100 Moorpark Ave.
Seniors take trip to San Francisco
