Los Gatos will honor athletes with Hall of Fame induction
The Los Gatos High School Athletic Hall of Fame will hold ceremonies for its first group of inductees with a special dinner slated for May 1 at the La Rinconada Country Club in Los Gatos.
Included in the initial class of inductees are such former Wildcat greats as former Olympic gold medallist Chris Von Saltza, former National Football League players Bill Fairband and Holden Smith, and former Canadian Football League star Hugh Campbell. Rounding out the list of 14 Hall of Fame inductees will be former Cats Gary Lynn, Heidee Ruiz, the late Dave Anderson, Ken Spagnola, Suzy Meckenstock Seandel, the late Bob Brannen, Dave Bearden, Bob Chambers, Todd Mayo and Eddie Siracusa.
The Hall of Fame committee is still attempting to reach the family of Bob Brannen to invite a representative to the event. Anyone with information on the Brannen family is urged to call Dick Sparrer at the Los Gatos Weekly-Times, 408.354.3110, ext. 31, or email dsparrer@svcn.com.
Tickets for the Hall of Fame dinner are priced at $75, and those attending the dinner will have the opportunity to nominate former Los Gatos athletes for induction in 2005.

Youth sports
The Silicon Valley region of National Youth Sports is holding registration for boys and girls ages 412 interested in playing basketball, soccer, T-ball and flag football.
Seasons begin April 10, and registration forms are available at local schools or online at http://www.nationalyouthspots.biz. Teams are divided by age groups. The registration fee is $60 and the league supplies all the equipment and provides officials for soccer and basketball.
Games are played on Saturdays with basketball at Kehilla Jewish
High in San Jose, near Saratoga Avenue and Highway 280, and soccer, T-ball and flag football played at Boynton High School, adjacent to the Kehilla gym.
A mandatory parents meeting will be held at Kehilla on March 27. The league will host a coaching clinic on April 3 and all coaches and players are encouraged to attend.
Strikkers tryouts
The Strikkers, a 12 and under A-division girls fast-pitch softball team, needs a pitcher and position player for the upcoming spring and summer seasons. Call Jane Osterhaus at 408.593.1811 or Ernie Garcia at 408.281.7855 for tryout information.
Baseball camp
Blossom Valley Pony Baseball will host a baseball camp for players ages 614 on April 10, 9 a.m.4 p.m., at Calero Elementary School in San Jose, led by instructors from America's Baseball Camps.
The cost for the hitting and defense camp, from 9 a.m.1 p.m., is $65 and the cost for the pitching camp, from 1:304 p.m., is $50.
Instructors will include Ben Boulware, a former Los Gatos High School star who went on to play in the Chicago White Sox organization.

Bronco baseball
The Santa Clara University baseball program will host a Youth Spring Break Camp for players ages 512 at Bellomy Field on the Bronco campus. Sessions will be held April 57 and April 1214, 9 a.m. to noon each day. The cost is $125 for each session.
