Many of the artworks on display in The Colors of SVYAD, a new exhibit at Red Ink Studios, are indeed colorful, but the show encompasses other spectrums, too, in particular an array of media and of subject matter. The show of works by emerging young Jewish artists is sponsored by the Silicon Valley Young Adult Division of the Jewish Federation of Greater San Jose. The exhibit kicked off last weekend with a special reception at Red Ink Studios and will be on display through this month.
The Silicon Valley Young Adult Division of the Jewish Federation of Greater San Jose hosts programs for young Jewish adults, ages 2540, both singles and couples. The group offers numerous activities, including social events, such as the Latke Ball in December, community outreach, and educational explorations of Judaism and the Hebrew language.
The Colors of SVYAD features paintings, color and black-and-white photography, drawings, sculpture, collage and film. The show fills the Red Ink Studios' spacious main gallery with a vibrant collection of images: everything from an energized moment at a rock concert frozen in time by the camera to bright, airy abstracts to earthy, solid sculpture.
The poster image for The Colors of SVYAD is a work by Stuart Sheldon, a colorful abstract with a central image that resembles a lightbulb--fitting for the fresh ideas featured in a show of up-and-coming artists--and the title says it all: We Can't Be Too Bold.
The exhibit will be on display through March at Red Ink Studios. For more information, call 408.358.3033 or see www.svyad.org.
