They'll be movin' and shakin' at Saratoga High School on March 26—and it won't be because of a high school dance.
Students will bring one of Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical masterpieces to the stage when they present Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat, under the direction of drama teacher Kathleen Woods.
Set in the biblical land of Caanan, the musical is about a young man, played by Chip Kraemer, who has the ability to interpret dreams and foresee the future.
"This is a fun piece to watch," Woods says. "There's a lot of action and different theatrical styles involved, from calypso to ballads to go-go dancing."
It's also a costly production to put together. According to Woods, approximately $10,000 went toward paying royalties and purchasing props, costumes and other stage equipment.
Woods says the show would not have been possible without the help of several people, including parents Cathie Thermond and Joyce Avery, who are co-producing the show, musical director Jim Yewell, orchestra director Michael Boitz, and professionals hired to choreograph the dances and design the set.
Dates for the performance are March 2628 and April 13. For times and ticket information, call the school's activities office at 408.867.3411 ext. 203. Tickets are $12 for students and $15 for adults. Tickets may be available at the door, depending on amount remaining.
