Several Saratoga basketball standouts were decorated with all-Santa Clara Valley Athletic League honors recently, as coaches of boys and girls teams in the De Anza and El Camino divisions recognized many players for jobs well done in 2004.
Junior forward Bryte Nielsen and senior guard Victoria Liu of Saratoga were given first-team recognition in the De Anza girls division, while Saratoga junior center Danny Wallace was named the Most Valuable Player in the El Camino boys circuit.
Wallace was joined on the El Camino all-league team by Aron Mitsunaga, who won first-team honors, and Irving Chien, a second-team pick.
Rounding out the El Camino first team were Jacob Fine of Lynbrook, Brian Ngo of Santa Clara, Daniel Fischer of Mountain View and Jonathan Hiley of Cupertino.
Winning second-team spots along with Chien were Shawn Girourd of Los Altos, Matt O'Donnell of Santa Clara, Eric Mayeda of Cupertino, Terence Willis and Kevin Metsers of Mountain View and Garrett Peters of Monta Vista.
Players on the honorable mention list included Clay Stiver, Ehson Mortezaie, Eric Ng and Greg Thacker of Cupertino; Chris Dasalla of Mountain View; Richie Cooley of Santa Clara; and Kenneth Pandian and John Lee of Lynbrook.
Local players joining Nielsen and Liu on the De Anza girls first team were junior guard Nikki Chang of Lynbrook, senior guard Jessica Norvelle of Los Gatos, and senior guard/forward Mandy Wald and sophomore center Becky Tratter of Homestead. Palo Alto's Jossy Teng, a senior guard, was named Most Valuable Player.
Among the second-team selections for De Anza girls were senior guard Jenelle Kitasoe of Homestead, Los Gatos forwards Katy McClenathen and Madeline Rose, junior guard Vickie Chien of Lynbrook and junior forward Julia Anderson of Saratoga.
Seniors Tiffany Tan of Saratoga and Melanie Wen of Monta Vista and juniors Mellissa Manuel of Homestead and Tiffany Pan of Lynbrook were given honorable mention recognition by the league's coaches.
