The Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame is now accepting entries in its annual Art Rosenbaum Sports Writing Scholarship contest for high school juniors and seniors. Sports-related articles covering high school sports should be submitted by April 15 to compete for scholarships of $2,500 (first place), $1,500 (second) and $1,000 (third). Sports writer

Interested in becoming a sports writer? The Silicon Valley Community Newspapers organization is looking for a part-time sports writer to cover high school and youth events. Some experience necessary. For information on this paid position, call Dick Sparrer at 408.354.3110, ext. 31.

Soccer camp

A spring soccer camp will be held April 12­16 for players ages 8­16. Jorge Espinoza is the camp director, and the cost is $150 for the full day (9 a.m.­4 p.m.) or $100 for a half day. For more information, call 408.872.3134.

Bronco baseball

The Santa Clara University baseball program will host a Youth Spring Break Camp for players ages 5­12 at Bellomy Field on the Bronco campus. Sessions will be held April 5­7 and April 12­14, 9 a.m. to noon each day. The cost is $125 for each session.

Baseball camp

Blossom Valley Pony Baseball will host a baseball camp for players ages 6­14 on April 10, 9 a.m.­4 p.m., at Calero Elementary School in San Jose, led by instructors from America's Baseball Camps.

The cost for the hitting and defense camp, from 9 a.m.­1 p.m., is $65 and the cost for the pitching camp, from 1:30­4 p.m., is $50.

Instructors will include Ben Boulware, a former Los Gatos High School star who went on to play in the Chicago White Sox organization, and Ron Hall, a former coach at the University of Utah. Boulware is the CEO of America's Baseball Camps.

Youth football registration begins

The Campbell­Saratoga Wolverines are coming home.

After waiting two years for the renovation of the football field at the Campbell Community Center, the teams of the youth football organization will be back on their home turf for the 2004 season.

The club will hold sign-ups for players and cheerleaders from mid-April through August. For special times and dates, check the website at www:campbellfootball.net.

The Wolverines are also looking for football and cheer coaches as well as an athletic director for the cheerleading squad. Those interested should contact Ed Brinson at 408.281.6712, Mike Anderson at 408.460.6272 or Cheryl Hernandez at 408.298.4196.
