Symphony Silicon Valley continues a series of guest conductor concerts April 3 with Maestro Leslie B. Dunner at the San Jose Center for the Performing Arts. No stranger to the CPA's stage, Dunner, music director of the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra, has performed in San Jose twice before.
His program, themed Spring Symphonies, includes Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Symphony No. 40 and Symphony No. 4 by Johannes Brahms. He will also lead the orchestra in the "School for Scandal Overture" by American composer Samuel Barber.
The April concert is one of the last shows the orchestra has slated for the CPA. Beginning in October, the symphony will have a new performance home. The 200405 season takes place at the newly renovated California Theater, located at 345 S. First St. in downtown San Jose. The theater dates back to 1927 when it was a movie palace. The opulent theater offers audiences an intimate musical experience, boasting only a little more than 1,000 seats rather than the 2,500 seats in the CPA.
A gala weekend of performances is planned for Oct. 9 and 10. The new season also features the addition of a Sunday matinee performance series in addition to the Saturday evening series and adds three more concerts to the lineup. Guest conductors continue to lead the symphony through a tribute to American film, classical holiday music, and programs highlighting the works of Mozart, Stravinsky and Mendelssohn.
Tickets for Symphony Silicon Valley's April 3 concert are $28$68. Call the box office at 408.286.2600 or go to www.symphonysiliconvalley.org for more information.
