It wasn't enough that the Saratoga girls softball team beat up on a couple of clubs from the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League's El Camino Division last week, the Falcons also took it to one of the teams from the top league—the De Anza Division.
The Falcons crushed Cupertino 22-1 and blanked Santa Clara 10-0 in league play, but they also beat local rival Los Gatos 4-1 in a non-league game.
Nikki Franchi won all three games for the Falcons, pushing her season record to 7-3. Included among the three wins was her third no-hitter of the year in the win over the Bruins.
Saratoga opened the week with the lopsided 10-0 win over Santa Clara. The clubs were locked in a scoreless tie through three innings before the Falcons unloaded for five runs in the fourth.
That was more than enough for Franchi. She struck out eight as she threw seven gooses eggs at the Bruins.
Saratoga would add another run in the fifth, then put the game on ice with four insurance runs in the seventh.
Second sacker Stef Behesthi led the 11-hit attack for Saratoga with two singles and a triple to drive in three runs.
Saratoga capped the week with the 22-1 five-inning win over Cupertino. The Falcons rallied for 14 runs in the second inning to give Franchi a big cushion to work with.
Franchi picked up the five-inning win, striking out Pioneers for nine of the 15 outs recorded in the game. Franchi gave up just three hits and allowed just a single run in the third. She also doubled and drove in three runs in the win.
Left fielder Chelsey Seagraves and shortstop Lisa Brenner each knocked in three runs for Saratoga in the lopsided win.
The Falcons, 2-1 in division play and 7-3 for the year, sandwiched a 4-1 win over Los Gatos of the De Anza Division before the two El Camino wins.
Franchi tossed a four-hitter for the win, striking out eight along the way. Brenner doubled for the Falcons and Franchi drove in three runs.
The Falcons went up 2-0 with two runs in the top of the third, but Gatos got one back in the bottom of the fourth. That would turn out to be the only run the Wildcats could manage against Franchi and the Falcons.
Saratoga added two insurance runs in the fifth and coasted from there to the 4-1 win.
The Falcons sit in third place in the El Camino with their 2-1 record, but they're just a game back in the loss column behind Fremont (4-0). Homestead (3-0) rests in second place, and the Falcons will host those Mustangs on April 8, 4 p.m., in a key league game.
Track teams split
Seniors Will Allehouse, Alvin Chyan and Tom Cummins were each double winners last week in Saratoga's 79-48 El Camino Division track and field win over Cupertino.

Steve Surrette raced to a victory in the 1,600 meters in 4:59 and Hari Subramaniam won the 3,200 in 10:03. Phil Spencer raced to a win in the 200 meters in 23.1.
Saratoga, 2-1 in the league dual meet season, also won both the 4x100 relay in 45.6 and the 4x400 relay in 3:41.
Alicia Follmar had another big day, but the Saratoga girls lost 71-55 the same day to slip to 2-1 in league action.
Follmar, a junior, won the 800 in 2:15.9, the 1,600 in 4:57 and the high jump at 4-10 to lead the Falcons in the meet.
Junior Jordana Dreyfuss added a couple of wins in the sprints, taking the 100 in 13.1 and the 200 in 28.1.
Gwen Belomy was first in the 300 hurdles in 48.6 and Amanda Van Hoesen won the shot put at 33-8.

Tough 4-3 losses
The Saratoga boys tennis team suffered a couple of tough 4-3 losses last week to slip to 5-2 in the De Anza Division and to 15-2 for the year.
A.J. Kerin won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, but the Falcons lost 4-3 to Palo Alto, and Kerin won 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1 but Saratoga lost 4-3 to local rival Los Gatos.
The Falcons had opened the week with a 6-1 non-league win over Mountain View. Kerin was a 6-2, 6-2 winner at No. 1 singles in that one.
Volleyball team falls
Junior Danny Wallace hammered 10 kills, but the Saratoga boys volleyball team dropped a 25-12, 25-13, 21-25, 25-12 decision to Homestead last week.
The Falcons also lost 25-14, 25-12, 25-13 to unbeaten Los Gatos to slip to 2-4 in the De Anza Division and to 3-4 for the year.
Golfers top Vikings
Matt Marshall and Shawn Pienkos each fired even par 29s to lead the Saratoga boys golf team to a 153-172 win over Lynbrook at the Deep Cliff Golf Course. The Falcons are now 8-0 in the De Anza Division.
