Commission gears
up for art in park

The second annual Art in the Park celebration hosted by the Saratoga Arts Commission, in conjunction with the Saratoga Recreation Department, will take place on Sept. 12 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Wildwood Park, 20764 Fourth St.

To help make the event a success, the commission is inviting residents over age 18 who belong to a Saratoga art gallery or organization to submit work of any medium for display and sale. There is no limit as to the number of works accepted, but each participant will be allotted a 10x10-foot booth. There is no entry fee required.

All work must be submitted by Aug. 25 to Kim Saxton-Heinrichs, the staff liaison to the arts commission, at 19655 Allendale Ave., Saratoga 95070. Entrants must also include an application and a self-addressed, stamped envelope for notification of acceptance. For more information, call 408.868.1248.

West Valley will
hold fashion show

Graduating students in the Fashion Design and Apparel Technology Department at West Valley College will sport their latest designs at the 20th annual fashion show on May 7. The first show will start at 4 p.m. and the second will follow at 7:30 p.m. at the West Valley College Theater, 14000 Fruitvale Ave. Tickets are $15. Local dentist hosts art show for Asai

Dr. Wataru Odomo of Saratoga will host an art show for Rikiya Asai, a 19-year-old artist from Hawaii who has cerebral palsy, on April 28 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Wine Galleria, 377 S. First St. in San Jose. Asai is well known in Tokyo and has been featured in local Hawaiian magazines.

garden tours

The Loma Prieta Community Foundation is hosting its second annual Spring Mountain Garden Tour and Brunch, which includes a brunch buffet and garden tours of homes in the Summit area May 8 and 9. Call 408.353.8025.
