Local artists will open their studios to the public in May
By My Ngo
Spring is in the air, flowers are in full bloom and artists throughout Santa Clara and San Mateo counties are once again gearing up for one of the largest events in the valley.

Now in its 18th year, Silicon Valley Open Studios will take place May 12, 89 and 1516.

"The level of participation is great," says Executive Director Kerri Lawnsby. "It keeps growing and growing."

There are 464 participants this year who will be opening their doors to the public, including 24 from Saratoga and 13 from Los Gatos. On display will be works in various mediums, including oil and acrylic paintings, ceramics, blown glass, handmade books, photography, stone sculpture, quilts and digital art.

According to Lawnsby, there are several widely recognized artists participating this year, but the event is an outlet for anyone interested.

"The purpose of Open Studios is to give artists of all levels a forum for showing their work to the pubic," Lawnsby says.

Maps of the self-guided tours are available at every public library as well as in Saratoga at Aegis Gallery of Fine Art, 14531 Big Basin Way; Gallery Saratoga, 14435 Big Basin Way; and Saratoga Framing Company, 12900 Saratoga-Sunnyvale Road; and in Los Gatos at Los Gatos Framing Company, 220 N. Santa Cruz Ave. A directory including information about all of the artists' works is also available online at www.svopenstudios.org.
