Tourney champions
The boys eighth-grade basketball team at Sacred Heart School in Saratoga won the championship in the 16-team St. Justin's Tournament. It marked the first time Sacred Heart has won the tourney crown in 22 years of participation in the event. Jeff Sloan was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player and Angelo Calario was named to the all-tournament team. Members of the squad included (from left) Frank Catanzaro, Taylor Pearce, Mark Kroenung, Matt Taylor, Thomas Carine, Ricky Bose, coach Patrick Drumm, Sloan, Jordan Sugimoto, Ryan Morris, Calario, Giordano Capovilla and Steven Homen. Not pictured is Garrett Cowles. Drumm, a graduate of Sacred Heart, has coached at the school for 12 years. As a player, his eighth-grade team lost in the tournament's championship game. He's the first former player to return to the tourney and lead his team to a title. Drumm has coached this team since the players were fifth graders and they've posted an impressive 58-2 record.
