MT. Eden hosts
annual horse vaulting competition

The Mt. Eden Vaulting Club will host its annual Spring Classic equestrian vaulting competition on May 15 and 16 at Garrod Farms, 22647 Garrod Road (off Mt. Eden Road) in Saratoga. The show features athletes from Saratoga, Cupertino and Los Gatos, and the competition will run from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day (Saturday advanced, Sunday novice and intermediate).

West Coast teams and individual will build pyramids and perform cartwheels and flips on the backs of cantering horses. Admission is free. For more information, call 408.867.9527.

Saratoga AYSO
registration for
soccer season

The Saratoga AYSO Region 27 will hold registration for the 2004 fall soccer season on May 15, 9:30 a.m.­1:30 p.m., and June 5, 10 a.m.­12:30 p.m., at Argonaut Elementary School.

The registration fee is $150 per player, and parents must provide the child's original birth certificate (for new players in the league), the name of the child's medical insurance carrier, name and phone number of the child's doctor, an emergency contact (name, phone and address) and the child's height and weight.

The AYSO asks that one members from each family volunteers their time in some capacity during the season. The family member who will volunteer must attend the registration. Referees are most needed.

Soccer tryouts

Tryouts for a De Anza girls under 16 class 1 soccer team will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays, 4:30­6:30 p.m., at Jollyman Park in Cupertino. The team is professional coached and trained by Bob Joyce, coach of the four-time State Cup champion De Anza Sharks. Soccer clash

Sporting Clube de Portugal, Portugal's premiere football club, will make a rare area appearance to take on the San Jose Earthquakes in a world class soccer game on May 12, 7:30 p.m., at Spartan Stadium. Tickets can be purchased through TicketMaster.

Youth football

The Campbell­Saratoga Wolverines youth football organization is holding sign-ups for players ages 8­14 and cheerleaders ages 6­15. Check the website at www.campbellfootball.net for more information.

The Wolverines will hold a car wash and league sign-ups at the Campbell Community Center, 1 W. Campbell Ave.

Summer softball

The Saratoga Recreation Department is accepting registration for its men's D summer softball league season. The league is open to players ages 35 and over and the team registration fee is $434. Games will be played Mondays and Wednesdays, 6 p.m. and 7:05 p.m., at El Quito Park. The season begins June 7 and manager packets are now available. Track meet

The San Jose City-Wide Youth Track Meet for boys and girls ages 9­14 will be held May 23, 8 a.m.­3 p.m., at Evergreen Valley High School. The meet will include running and field events. There is no entry fee.
