Lamble, Padmanabhan win tennis titles
By Kevin Sparrer
Kelly Lamble and Arthi Padmanabhan found the hometown courts to their liking when they topped the field in the girls 14 and 12 divisions at the TOGA Spring Open Tennis Tournament held in early May on the courts at West Valley College and Saratoga High School.

The tourney, sanctioned by the United States Tennis Association, was a fundraiser for the Saratoga High School tennis team and raised more than $2,000 for the Falcons.

The 13-year-old Lamble, a seventh grader at Redwood Middle School, had won the girls 14 singles title a week earlier at the Monterey Open, then made it two straight on her hometown courts.

Lamble clinched the title by besting Christina Hu in straight sets in the final round. Lamble topped Sophie Chang and Mia Giovanetti in two straight to advance through the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds.

Kiersten Meehan of Monte Sereno defeated Danielle Burke from Hollister in two out of three sets to advance to the second round of the tournament. Meehan then defeated Alexandra Iova-Negoescu and Caroline Tran in straight sets to find herself in the quarterfinals. Meehan came away with another victory against Alyssa Roberg from Scotts Valley, but was defeated in the semifinal round by Hu.

Lamble put one of her fellow Saratoga competitors, Angela Horng, out in her first match.

Saratoga's Lindsey Marsh, Tarini Ullal and Tiffany Nguyen also won matches to advance to the third round, but it was only Lamble who proceeded from there.

Padmanabhan, also from Saratoga, defeated Ketaki Shriram in the final round of the girls 12 division in straight sets to claim the title. Padmanabhan bested Alexis Pressas and Srinidhi Raghavan in the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds before winning the tournament.

The boys 14 division was won by Naveen Dixit of Los Altos, the No. 1 seed in the tournament. Ryan Duggal of Los Altos came away with the championship in the boys 12 division.
