Saratoga hosts girls, boys hoop camps

The 10th annual Saratoga Skills Clinic, a basketball camp for girls, will feature one more session at Saratoga High School, under the direction of girls varsity head coach Bret Yeilding.

The final camp is set for June 28­July 16 for girls in the seventh and eighth grades, 1­3 p.m. each day ($285 per player).

Along with Yeilding and members of his coaching staff, players from the Saratoga girls team that won the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League De Anza Division championship this past winter will serve as camp instructors.

Boys basketball

A Saratoga basketball camp for boys will be held July 12­15 for grades 3­6. Morning and afternoon sessions will be available. The registration fee is $110­150 per session and scholarships are available. For more information, call 408.881.0873.

Warriors camp

The Golden State Warriors will host a basketball camp for boys and girls ages 8­16 of all skill levels and abilities on July 26­30 at West Valley College in Saratoga.

The camp staff is made up of current high school and college coaches, as well as current and former local college players. Most sessions also feature appearances by current and former Warriors players and coaches.

Special teams clinic

The West Valley Pop Warner football organization, formerly Los Gatos Pop Warner, will hold a free special teams clinic on July 31, 1­5 p.m., at the Campbell Community Center. The clinic is open to players ages 7­15 and will be presented by San José State University and West Valley College instructors.

Football camp

The Catt's Football Camp for seventh and eighth graders will be held July 12­16, 1:30­3:30 p.m. each day, at Los Gatos High School's Helm Field. The camp is sponsored by the Los Gatos Athletic Association and will be directed by Los Gatos varsity football Butch Cattolico along with frosh-soph coach Dale Gustafson and Kevin Reeves.

The cost of the camp is $125 per player and each camper will receive a T-shirt. Los Gatos varsity football players will assist with the camp and demonstrate the football skills that will be covered.

Wrestling camp

The 15th annual Wildcat Wrestling Camps for Kids will be held in July in the wrestling room at Los Gatos High School. The focus of the camp will be on fundamentals and wrestling skills.

Session No. 1 for beginners to intermediates ages 7­12 will be held July 12­16; Session No. 2 for intermediates in grades 6­9 will be held July 19­23; and Session No. 3 for advanced wrestlers in grades 8­12 will be held July 26­30. Camp hours are 1:30­4:30 p.m. daily and the cost is $110.

Los Gatos varsity wrestling coach Scott Downs is the camp director and among the instructors will be Fisher head coach Jim Doss and former Los Gatos wrestling standout Richard Escobar.

Summer basketball

The San José City College men's basketball program will feature a series of events this summer for basketball players, basketball parents and basketball coaches.

San José City will host a day camp for boys ages 8­16 on July 12­15, 9 a.m.­4 p.m. each day, $235 per player. There will also be a half-day camp July 19­22, 9 a.m.­1 p.m. each day, $135 per player.

Clinics for players ages 9­10 and their parents are slated for July 7, 9, 14, 17 and 21 at the college, 7­8:15 p.m. each night. The cost is $100 for the five sessions.

A coach's workshop is slated for July 24, 9 a.m.­1 p.m., in the main gym at San José City College. The cost for "The Court Sense Workshop for Coaches" is $25.

Girls soccer camp

Volleyball camps

The Vision Volleyball Club will host indoor and outdoor volleyball camps for girls this summer at Santa Clara High School and West Valley Community College in Saratoga.

An all skills camp for girls in grades 5­12 will be held July 19­22, 2­5 p.m. each day, at Santa Clara High; a youth camp for girls in grades 5­8 will be held Aug. 9­12, 9 a.m.­noon each day, at West Valley; and an advanced camp for girls in grades 9­12 will be held Aug. 9­12, 5­8 p.m., at West Valley.

An outdoor camp for girls in grades 5­12 is set for July 28­30 at West Valley, 9­11:30 a.m. each day.

Camp participants will receive instruction in volleyball fundamentals and tactics, and will learn the basics of team play. The cost is $150 per player for each indoor session and $90 per player for the outdoor session, and all campers receive T-shirts.
