Saratoga cheer, song teams host 3rd annual Pee Wee Spirit Camp
By Lisa Toth
They master the moves, become champions of cheering and develop teamwork—all in one fun-filled, high-energy program.

The Saratoga High School Spirit Team has upcoming registration for its third annual Saratoga Pee Wee Spirit Camp. Registration takes place on Sept. 20 from 5 to 7 p.m. and on Sept. 21 from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Saratoga High School gymnasium, 20300 Herriman Ave.

Parent Gigi Peebles said adult volunteers with the team wanted the girls to start some kind of fundraiser where they could be involved in the community.

"It's been a success, and the girls really like it," Peebles said. "The parents have rallied behind it."

The pee wee camp consists of three instructional days and a final performance on Oct. 29—including all participants—during the halftime show at Saratoga's varsity football game. In addition, each camp participant receives a keepsake camp uniform T-shirt to perform in as well as a set of authentic cheer poms.

The program is open to children ages 6 though 12, and the registration fee is $65, payable to the Saratoga Spirit Squad. Peebles said they are taking up to 65 participants. The program is open to young children from any area or school, including Los Gatos and Monte Sereno.

"They really look up to the older girls," Peebles said. "The older girls become role models for the little girls and have even gotten some babysitting jobs out of the program."

The camp is taught by Saratoga High's cheer and song teams. The camp dates and times are Oct. 24 from 3 to 5 p.m., Oct. 25 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. and Oct. 28 from 4 to 5:30 p.m., with the final performance on Oct. 29 during halftime.
