Tyler
Ruthe M. Tyler, 82, died in her home in Saratoga on Aug. 22.
Tyler was born in San Francisco and attended Lowell High School and UC-Berkeley. She was working at the 1939 World's Fair when she met her future husband, Samuel Lawrence "Larry" Tyler. They were married for 59 years. They moved to Saratoga in 1957, where they purchased the Saratoga Variety Store and managed it until 1970. After closing the store, they developed and managed commercial properties in downtown Saratoga. She was good friends and worked with Raisa Kocher at Kocher Interiors in Saratoga for many years and was a longtime member of the Foothill Women's Club.
Tyler had a sister, Velma Roush, and a brother, George Roush, both deceased. She is survived by her son, Greg Tyler, and his wife, Geraldine; grandchildren Mathew and Mara Tyler; nephew John Hopkins, his wife, Caroline, and their children, Kerry Gaskins and Scott Hopkins; sister-in-law Sally Roush and her sons, Chris and Patrick Carstens; numerous other nieces and nephews; and her cat, Calico.
At her request, there will be no funeral service. Her friends and family will celebrate her life in a private gathering. Donations can be made in her name to the Kaiser Hospice Program at 10080 N. Wolfe Road, Suite SW 3-160, Cupertino, CA 95014.
