No sooner had Saratoga recovered from the partying of Celebrate Saratoga! than another major city event was upon it.
Building Bridges, a project of the Rotary Club of Saratoga, has already started with a series of events in the community.
The finale, with an assortment of cultural events and ethnic food, is being held on Oct. 10 between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. at West Valley College.
Fred Armstrong, the chairman of the event, said that the second Building Bridges event would help community members understand each other better and reach out to one another.
The entertainment on the final day ranges from belly-dancing to Indian classical dance. Also thrown in are Palestinian folk dancers, a Chinese fashion show and an Armenian youth dance group. Other attractions include Chinese and Korean martial arts, the West Valley College Jazz Choir and some Tahitian dancing. Most of these groups get between five and eight minutes each to perform.
The final day's ceremony kicks off with a performance on Japanese drums and a parade of international flags.
A variety of ethnic foods will be served by Whole Foods, the caterer for this year's event. The food is free but visitors will have to pay for soda and water.
Armstrong said that he expects many more people for this year's events because publicity leaflets were sent to every household in Saratoga.
"At least 100 people are part of the planning process," said Armstrong. "Every school is involved in one way or the other. The city has also proclaimed the week of Oct. 3 as Building Bridges Week." Armstrong said that Building Bridges is on its way to becoming an annual event.
The final day will also feature kids crafts and games and community booths. All through the week, various community events are being held all over the city.
One major event is the Religions of the World Series at the Saratoga Library, a series of lectures on different faiths.
